The Scottish giants will play their first European final since 2008.

Rangers defeated RB Leipzig 3-1 in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final battle on Thursday. A 3-2 win on aggregate sends the Light Blues to the tournament’s final, where they will face another Bundesliga side.

Leipzig stunned at Ibrox!

Rangers started the game by giving away the possession, but they managed to keep Leipzig at bay with their quick counter-attacks.

The Gers opened the scoring through James Tavernier in the 18th minute, before Glen Kamara scored their second goal of the night only six minutes later.

The hosts, who started the game being 1-0 behind on aggregate, had suddenly made a comeback to take the lead.

Leipzig immediately started their efforts to get back into the game. However, Rangers’ brilliant performance in midfield left little room for them to find enough chances.

The Bundesliga heavyweights finally equalized the tie through Christopher Nkunku in the 70th minute. They increased the pressure on Rangers’ backline to find the match-winner, but their plan backfired soon enough.

Following a half-cleared cross by Josko Gvardiol, John Lundstram smashed the ball into the bottom-left corner of the net to win the tie for Rangers.

Leipzig pushed hard to get back into the game in the final ten minutes, but Rangers managed to defend their lead in the incredible atmosphere of Ibrox.

What’s next for Rangers?

Rangers will face Eintracht Frankfurt in this season’s Europa League final on May 18.

Before that, however, the Gers must return to the Scottish Premiership, where they host Dundee United on Sunday.
