Ramsdale put on a show to keep a cleen sheet for Arsenal in their massive victory against the Foxes.
Aaron Ramsdale surprised Arsenal fans with another incredible performance on Saturday.
The Gunners goalkeeper made eight saves to keep a clean sheet in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Leicester City. His best save came in the 42nd minute when he tipped James Maddison’s free-kick onto the crossbar with a stunning save.
In a post-match interview, Ramsdale explained his reaction.
“Maddison is a top free-kick taker and I’ve come up against him a couple of times in the league and training for the [England] Under-21s,” Ramsdale said.
“I was more worried that he would reverse it and come my side. He didn’t have too much pace on it which allowed me to get there.
“It was just one of those days that I was saving everything that was thrown at me and the lads were blocking everything [else] – top day all-round.”
Mikel Arteta admitted he could not believe the Ramsdale save when he saw it from the touchline.
“My reaction when I saw the ball leaving Maddison’s foot was ‘goal’. I don’t know how it happened, it was incredible, and the timing of it was crucial.
“We invest money in talent and people we believe can be great for the future of the club. We make that decision based on that. Aaron has had some encouraging performances, today he made some incredible saves.
“He needs to continue to do that. In football you need to play 50 games for 20 years, and this is only the start.”
With their victory against the Foxes, Ramsdale an co climbed to fifth place on the league table.
The Gunners will meet Watford in their next game on November 7.
