A defender who boasts a remarkable record of a century of goals for Real Madrid has drawn up a shortlist of his five most dear ones.
Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos was one of the three names on the scoresheet for his side in Tuesday’s Champions League group stage contest against Inter Milan.
The Spaniard’s 33rd-minute goal helped him reach a special milestone in his 15-year-long career at the Santiago Bernabeu as it marked his 100th strike for the club.
It took him 659 games to reach that tally, a decent strike-rate of a goal in just over every six games that puts other even some strikers to shame.
The 34-year old has a reputation for having the final say in matches as he has found the net in some of the most clutch moments for his side.
“The goals are like my children,” Ramos responded when quizzed by Marca on his five favorite strikes for the Spanish giants.
“It’s hard to choose one, but there has been one that has been very special and has defined my career – the one in Lisbon against Atletico Madrid.”
The aforementioned goal was scored by the center-back in the dying minutes, 92:48 to be precise, in the 2014 Champions League final, a match his side went on to win 4-1 after extra time.
He picked another Champions League final goal for his second favorite strike, and again against Atletico. His 15th-minute header kept Los Blancos in the match and they yet again went on to win it, this time through penalties.
Ramos’ chose his brace against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final next. The 90th-minute equalizer against Barcelona at Camp Nou in 2016/17 and his first goal in the Champions League away at Olympiacos all the way back in 2005/06 were his final two picks.
