The German boss is taking serious steps to ensure United are frontrunners in the race for the Norwegian striker.
Erling Haaland is currently in very high demand. Almost every top European club are eyeing a move for the player, who will probably leave Borussia Dortmund next year.
Manchester United are among the clubs that are reportedly eager to secure the signing of Haaland. The club have recently appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager, which might help them get their Norwegian transfer target.
Rangnick pushing for a move
According to MEN, Rangnick has recently spoken to Haaland’s father about a potential transfer. The Man United manager has a cordial relationship with Alf-Inge Haaland, which dates back to his time at RB Salzburg.
While working as a sporting director at Salzburg, Rangnick oversaw Haaland’s move to the club in 2018. A move that completely changed Haaland’s career by introducing him to the top European Leagues. Having spent a year at Salzburg, Haaland moved to Dortmund, where he has established himself as a top-class striker.
In his 74 appearances for the Black and Yellows, Haaland has scored 76 goals. His reported €75million release clause becomes active next year, which will attract even more clubs. As of now, Man United sees Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich as their main rivals for Haaland’s signature.
What Rangnick said about Haaland?
When asked about Haaland in his introductory press conference, Rangnick responded: “Erling Haaland is a fantastic striker,
“I know best myself, because I was together with the people at Salzburg with my friend Kristoff and the people there were a little bit involved in the move from Molde to Salzburg, and therefore I know what kind of player he is.
“I’m more than happy with the offensive strike power we have here and the offensive players we have here, and quite a few of them did not play [against Arsenal]. Martial only came on in the last five minutes, Mason [Greenwood] didn’t play at all, we have so many top players in the offensive department that we don’t need to speak about any other players.”
