The England international is on the verge of joining Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling has confirmed his departure from Manchester City by posting a farewell message to the club.

The 27-year-old winger is on the brink of completing a move to Chelsea. Personal terms for a contract until 2027 are settled. Chelsea have also struck an agreement with City. The Blues will pay an initial transfer fee of £45 million and a further £10 million in add-ons, leaving the final fee at around £55 million.

Sterling has reportedly traveled to Los Angeles to join his new team’s pre-season tour in the United States.

Sterling’s goodbye message

The player has now announced his exit from the Etihad on social media with a thank-you note to everyone at the club.

“Seven seasons, eleven major trophies, a lifetime of memories,” he posted on Twitter.

“To the coaching staff who have played a massive role in my development over the years to my team-mates who have become more than just those I share a pitch with, to the backroom staff, to the office staff, to the fans who have tirelessly supported the team and to everyone involved with Manchester City, my respect for you couldn’t be greater.

“What a ride it’s been.

“I am thankful for the ups and the downs as it’s the downs that have, at times, tested my strength and resolve and enabled me to stand here in front of you as the best possible version of myself.

“I arrived in Manchester as a 20-year-old. Today, I leave a man. Thank you for your endless support. It’s been an honour to wear the shirt of Manchester City.”

Sterling joined Man City from Liverpool in 2015. In 337 appearances, the winger supplied 131 goals and 94 assists. He won 12 trophies at the Citizens, including four Premier League titles, and reached the Champions League final in 2021.
