The former Manchester City star has already established himself as a key player at Stamford Bridge.
Raheem Sterling has picked Matteo Kovacic as the player he was most excited to link up with at Chelsea.
The England international played alongside some of the best Premier League players back in Manchester City.
However, Kovacic’s performances against the Citizens had caught the attention of Sterling even before they became teammates.
Asked by BT Sports about his favourite teammate at Chelsea, the 27-year-old said: “Kovacic. When we used to play them with [Man] City, I used to think: ‘Oh, my good gosh!’
“I’m not going to lie. Of course I used to always love playing with Mason for England as well.
“He’s just a little busy one, he’s just always getting on the ball and stuff.
“Kova for sure because there were a couple times he was doing some serious stuff against us.”
Sterling has scored three goals in his 11 Premier League appearances for the Blues so far this season.
Graham Potter has used Sterling as a left-back recently, but the English forward doesn’t seem to have a problem with his new role.
“I haven’t played in back five for a while, but it’s something the manager has asked me to do and something that I’m more than happy to do as well,” Sterling told the Kelly and Wrighty Show earlier this week.
“We’ve got the ball, I’m high and wide but you’ve to defend as well… But the more I’m next to the box, the better for myself. The more time I have to figure it out in this position, I’m more than happy to play it.”
