A number of elite European sides have shown interest in the Portguese forward.

The father of Rafael Leao has confirmed the AC Milan star is in contract negotiations with the Serie A champions.

Leao’s current deal expires in 2024, forcing Milan to fend off suitors by tying him down to a new contract.

Reports from multiple Italian outlets claim the Rossoneri are willing to make Leao the highest-paid player in Serie A. However, they are yet to convince the Portugal international to extend his stay at San Siro.

“We’re working on it,” Antonio Leao told Record.

“We are negotiating, because Rafael Leao has a contract that expires in 2024.

“Until that date, we are negotiating on everything. We will take care of everything, without Chelsea, without Real Madrid, without Barcelona.”

Chelsea have reportedly increased their efforts to bring Leao to Stamford Bridge next summer. But Leao’s father says he loves playing in Italy.

“Rafael loves being in Italy,” he said. “He has a predilection for Italians, the one the Portuguese do not have for him.

“He won the award for best player of the last Serie A not because he was beautiful, but simply…because he is the best.”
