An apparent leg injury forced the USMNT star to leave the pitch earlier than he had expected in San Pedro Sula.

Christian Pulisic limped off with an ankle injury during the World Cup qualifier clash between the US and Honduras on Wednesday.

Pulisic, with a noticeable limp, attempted to play on after being on the receiving end of a harsh challenge by Honduras captain Maynor Figueroa. However, within just five minutes it became clear that he couldn’t carry on and he he finally hobbled off the pitch in the 62nd minute.

The 22-year-old winger, who only recently recovered from COVID-19, joins Tim Weah, Giovanni Reyna, and Sergino Dest on the treatment table.

“Christian has a slight ankle injury,” USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter said post-match, per NBC Sports.

“We’re going to get more info on it when he goes back to London, the severity of it.”

USA, though, were able to squeeze out all three points from their trip to San Pedro Sula as they recorded an emphatic 4-1 victory at Olimpico Metropolitano.

Thomas Tuchel will be hoping Pulisic is able to recover just in time for Chelsea’s first match after the international break. The Blues play welcome Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday for their 4th Premier League fixture of the 2021-22 campaign.
