A former Chelsea player has high expectations from one of the club’s new signing to link up well with a certain player on the left flank.

Chelsea had long been linked with signing reinforcements for left-back, a position that had been a cause of worry for Frank Lampard throughout the last season.

Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico, Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon, FC Porto’s Alex Telles, and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell, hence, were all linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard, however, was reportedly had his heart set on bringing in Chilwell. The club granted the boss his wish as they announced the 23-year old’s transfer on Wednesday.

And Pat Nevin, who played for Chelsea between 1983 and 1988, believes the presence of Chilwell and Christian Pulisic on the left side of the pitch would boost the threat substantially in the final third.

“At Chelsea will Ben Chilwell have an intelligent, skillful, pacy winger to work with who has a superb football brain?” the former Chelsea winger told the club’s official website.

“One who has vision, can see a pass and crucially knows when to vacate the space for his mate hammering down the line on that left-hand side?

“I may well have given something close to a perfect description of Christian Pulisic just there. That could be one extraordinary partnership if they click.”
