A fellow countryman has set a goals and assists target for the USMNT star for his third season at Stamford Bridge.

Christian Pulisic has been backed to become “quite an important part of Chelsea’s team this season” by United States legend Brad Friedel.

Friedel also believes reaching “double digits” in goals and assists is an “achievable” target for the 22-year-old attacker.

Pulisic’s tally in 2020-21 was substandard for a winger of his calibre as he hit just six goals and supplied only four assists from 43 games in all competitions.

In 2021-22 so far, he has featured in both of Chelsea’s games, coming off the bench in the UEFA Super Cup final against Villarreal while starting in the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, and scored once.

“It’s hard for any player to come into the Premier League and then it’s more difficult to come into the Premier League with one of the top sides in the league,” Friedel told Goal, speaking in association with Pickswise.

“There’s a settling in period that’s always going to take place because the football’s very different than other countries that Christian has played in.

“I thought he had a very good start to his Chelsea career, and he performed very, very well for the United States over the summer.

“Now that he knows what to expect fully in England, he’s a tremendous talent and I think double digits in goals and possibly assists is achievable for him.

“With the amount of chances Chelsea create, I expect him to be quite an important part of Chelsea’s team this season.”
