A win is a must for the Parisians on Tuesday as a draw would complicate matters while defeat would almost certainly lead to elimination.
Paris Saint-Germain welcome RB Leipzig for their fourth Champions League group stage game and they find themselves in a tricky situation, which is even more surprising considering they made it to the finals last season.
The Ligue 1 champions carry the risk of failing to qualify for the knockout rounds of the competition, sitting third in Group D – three points behind leaders Manchester United as well as the upcoming opponents.
Tuesday night awaits inarguably the biggest match of their season so far. Both the European heavyweights are chasing one of the top two spots, but the pressure will be more on the hosts.
PSG vs RB Leipzig Form:
Thomas Tuchel’s will not exactly be buzzing with high morale heading into CL matchday 4, having suffered a 3-2 defeat to Monaco on Friday.
The visitors fared better in their last match, but only slightly as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt.
If there’s one thing the French side can take pride in is their efficiency in front of goal, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Angel Di Maria contributing 28 goals in 11 Ligue 1 games so far.
However, they could find it hard to score against the German opposition, who boast the joint-best tally of just five goals conceded in Bundesliga.
PSG vs RB Leipzig Head-to-head:
On two previous occasions have the two teams clashed against each other. A 50-50 record exists between them, with Leipzig losing 3-0 in last year’s Champions League semi-final but winning 2-1 in the reverse fixture of the upcoming tie.
PSG vs RB Leipzig Team News:
Ander Herrera remains a doubt after picking up a knock just prior to the Monaco match. Marco Verratti could also miss Tuesday’s clash while Idrissa Gueye and Presnel Kimpembe are suspended.
As Tuchel said earlier, Neymar will start despite lacking match fitness due to the nature of the match.
Julian Nagelsmann will also be facing a selection dilemma with injuries to key defenders. Nordi Mukiele, Lukas Klostermann, and Marcel Halstenberg all remain doubtful.
