The French giants have confirmed Ramos has suffered a new injury setback.

Paris Saint-Germain will face Nice in the last-16 round of the Coupe de France on Monday. The Parisians, however, will have to play without the services of one of their key defenders.

The club have confirmed the Spanish centre-back has suffered a muscle injury which rules him out of the upcoming match.

“Sergio Ramos has to rest for a low-grade muscle injury in his right calf that occurred on Thursday during training and will be reassessed in the middle of the week,” a club statement read.

Since joining the club last summer, Ramos has featured in only five games across all competitions. The former Real Madrid defender finally played a full 90 minutes against Reims last week. However, the new setback will once again remove him from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. The new injury also casts doubts on his availability to play against the Blancos in the Champions League.

The club also provided updates on the injuries of Neymar and Georginho Wijnaldum, who are completing their rehabilitation programs.

“Neymar Jr, who is recovering from a left ankle sprain with ligament damage, has completed a first cycle of running and will undergo tests on Monday to confirm the rest of his schedule.” the PSG statement added.

“Georginio Wijnaldum, who is recovering from a left ankle sprain with partial damage to the medial collateral ligament, is continuing his individual programme with a view to returning to the squad at the end of the week.”

Pochettino confirmed Lionel Messi is an option for PSG’s starting lineup after returning from his Covid-related absence.

He told a pre-match press conference: “He trained well this week after having been absent due to COVID. He played 30 minutes last week and I think he can start the match against Nice on Monday,”

Following their match against Nice, PSG will return to Ligue 1, where they meet reigning champions Lille on Sunday.
