The six-time Ballon d’Or winner’s chances of a Pep Guardiola reunion in the Champions League have taken a big step forward at PSG.

Lionel Messi has stepped up his recovery from a knee injury ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League clash with Manchester City.

The 34-year-old took part in a full training session on Monday, as seen in the 17-minute video below, as PSG prepared to face City. The Parisians are yet to confirm whether he’ll return, but seeing him train is a positive sight nonetheless.

Life at the Parc des Princes has since gotten off to a slow start for Messi. A bone bruise has restricted him to just a handful of appearances and caused him to miss PSG’s last two Ligue 1 games against Metz and Montpellier.

The injury occurred from a slight knock in a league match between PSG and Lyon on September 19. It was only his third outing for the club since his summer arrival from Barcelona.

Upon taking no risks at the weekend, however, it seems Messi may face City and former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola on Tuesday evening at the Parc des Princes after all.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side trail the reigning Premier League champions by two points in Group A after drawing 1-1 with Club Brugge in their first Champions League game of the season.
