The Brazil international has come under fire for his recent performances at Parc des Princes.

Christophe Galtier has insisted he ‘never thought of’ striping Marquinhos of Paris Saint-Germain captaincy.

The Ligue 1 giants have found a brilliant start to the new season, with the attacking trio of Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe showing top form.

However, PSG’s recent defensive displays have generated criticism toward their backline.

There have been talks of Marquinhos giving up the captain armband in French media. But Galtier insists he has no intentions of changing his side’s captain.

“The captaincy, I have never thought of taking it away from him,” he stated. “He knows everything, he is irreproachable.

“He knows when he can come to see me to share certain points of view. He is a very good relay for me. In the field, I have several relays with him – Sergio Ramos, Presnel Kimpembe, Kylian Mbappe.

“On his performances, I am surprised by your analysis. I do not share it. He must assimilate to a new system, that is all.”

Brazil manager Tite has called up Marquinhos for Selecao’s last set of friendly matches ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

Before joining the national team, however, Marquinhos must play for PSG in a crucial league game against Lyon on Sunday.
