The Frenchman could leave PSG ahead of the next season.
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly considering Ousmane Dembele as a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappe.
Earlier this summer, Mbappe informed PSG of his decision not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025. Since then, Real Madrid have re-emerged as the favourite candidate to sign the World Cup winner ahead of the next season.
On Wednesday, PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi insisted the club won’t allow Mbappe to leave as a free agent next summer, confirming the club are open to selling the 24-year-old this summer.
It seems the Ligue 1 champions are already considering their options to replace the French superstar.
According to Foot Mercato, PSG see Dembele as an “ideal” replacement for Mbappe. The prospect of activating Dembele’s €50m release clause also appeals to the club as it would spare them negotiations with the Catalan side.
A move for the 26-year-old, however, will depend on Mbappe’s possible departure. PSG are reportedly demanding a €200m fee for the Frenchman’s transfer. But the Blancos might not be open to paying such a high fee for a player that only has a year left on his current contract.
Dembele has become a key player in Barca’s attacking line under Xavi, making 35 appearances last season. The Frenchman’s potential departure could force the club to find a replacement amid their financial issues this summer.
