The Ligue 1 champions are one of the strong favorites to sign the six-time Ballon d’Or winner once his Barcelona contract expires.
Marquinhos kept his cards close to his chest regarding Paris Saint-Germain’s chances of signing Lionel Messi, who he rates highly.
The Parisians, along with Premier League giants Manchester City and Inter Milan in the Serie A, are reportedly one of Messi’s favored destinations should he leave Barcelona once his contract expires at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old still has plenty to offer on the pitch and can compete with the world’s finest players. Even in his unsettling circumstances at Camp Nou, he continues to deliver excellent performances.
“We’ll see what happens,” PSG captain Marquinhos told beIN Sports.
“At times we are rivals with the national team and at club level. Messi is a great player. We all know what he is capable of and we will see what happens.”
The Brazilian, who operates as a center-back and defensive midfielder, will be paired up against Messi and Barcelona for the Champions League knockout stages in February.
Marquinhos was a member of the PSG side from 2017 that surrendered a 4-0 aggregate advantage from the first-leg to lose 6-1 to Barcelona in the return leg, losing 6-5 on aggregate in the process.
“It’s a great match to play in,” said the former Roma man.
“It’s a great opponent and a great challenge. We expect a great battle and we will have to be prepared for this match,” he said.
“We saw the draw; there were not many opponents left, we were ready to see any opponent come out.”
