The Paris Saint-Germain boss and his son are in police custody over racism allegations.

Christophe Galtier, the coach of Paris Saint-Germain, and his son are in custody as part of a police investigation into allegations of racism at one of his previous clubs, OGC Nice.

The prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme told The Associated Press that police had detained Galtier and his son, John Valovic-Galtier. They arrived on Friday morning for questioning.

When he was in charge of Nice, Galtier faced accusations of making racist and anti-Muslim comments. The 56-year-old Frenchman denied the accusations when the scandal broke earlier this year.

Reports from French media outlets, including RMC Sport, quoted a leaked email from the former director of football at Nice, Julien Fournier, to the club’s owners. In the email, Fournier accused Galtier of saying that the team had too many Black and Muslim players.

In response to the allegations, Galtier released a statement through his lawyer to French media. He said that he was “stunned to learn of the insulting and defamatory” report. He also promised to take legal action, although he did not specify what kind of action he would take.

Galtier’s current employers, PSG, are yet to make any comment on the investigation.
