Parc des Princes was the place where PSG received a visit from Montpellier in another French Ligue 1 match. We have the player ratings.

PSG had an interesting match to play today against Montpellier at Parc des Princes for a new Ligue 1 fixture. The current campaign has an unusual competition in which four clubs are competing at a high level to win the trophy this year. PSG remains at the top but they could’ve lost the lead today if they didn’t win against today’s rival. A big part of this strange low form is Kylian Mbappe’s goal-drought during 2021.

Until today, the French forward hadn’t scored a single goal in any competition. But everything changed after the full 90 minutes went by at Parc des Princes. The key moment of the evening came after Mbappe was taken down right outside the box by Omlin. Montpellier’s goalkeeper was initially saved from a direct red card after the foul but VAR corrected the referee. It didn’t take PSG long to get the first goal of the evening through a dinked finish from Mbappe.

Neymar takes over in the second half.

After the break, Montpellier wasn’t able to hold the result for much longer as PSG scored three goals in three minutes. Neymar was involved in every single one of them but he did score the second one after a wonderful collective effort from the PSG offensive force. Icardi got to score the third after an assist from Mbappe.

And finally, the French forward scored his brace quickly after an assist from Icardi. With this win, PSG moves to the top spot with 45 points but they still have to see if Marseille can reach them tomorrow. OM play against AS Monaco in a thrilling Saturday match between two title contenders at the Isles. A win from the locals will help PSG remain alone at the top of the table.
