A hard-fought draw was enough for PSG to reclaim their reign in the French top-flight.
Lens held Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-1 draw in their Ligue 1 game on Saturday. However, that was not enough to stop the Parisians from claiming the league title.
Messi picks the perfect time to score!
Paris Saint-Germain went into the game knowing that a draw would be enough for them to win the title.
The Parisians played with the trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar up front, starting their attacks as soon as the game started.
However, Lens surprised their opponents by showing great quality in midfield. The duo of Marco Veratti and Idrisa Gueye struggled to find spaces behind Lens’ backline despite multiple runs from the team’s attackers.
It took PSG 68 minutes to break the deadlock at their home stadium, but Messi’s goal was definitely worth the wait. Following a pass from Neymar, the Argentine latched onto the ball behind the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top-left corner of the net.
Lens started their efforts to get the equalizer almost immediately after Messi’s goal. After a few half chances, the guests made it 1-1 through Corentin Jean in the 88th minute.
They pushed hard to deny PSG of title confirmation, but the Parisians managed to hold on to the draw and secure the Ligue 1 title.
What’s next for PSG?
After a crazy summer transfer window and months of speculation over Mauricio Pochettino’s Manchester United links, PSG can now celebrate reclaiming the Ligue 1 title.
They will return to action on Friday, taking on Strasbourg in their next league game.
