The Parisians claimed a narrow win over ten-man Marseille to further secure their top spot in Ligue 1.
Paris Saint-Germain defeated Marseille 1-0 in their Ligue 1 game on Sunday. A solid attacking display saw the Parisians return to winning ways at their home stadium.
Marseille put up a fight!
PSG pushed hard to outpace their opponents early on but failed to create an immediate impact through their initial attacks.
Marseille managed to create a few chances on the counter-attacks, but the hosts’ patience eventually paid off, with Neymar breaking the deadlock just before half-time.
Following a precise cutback from Kylian Mbappe, the Brazilian star scored his ninth goal of the season with a well-composed finish from inside the box.
Marseille tried to come back into the game through quick runs from both flanks but had no luck in finding the back of the net.
Things got worse when Samuel Gigot received a straight red card for his horrendous tackle on Neymar in the 72nd minute.
The pace of the game decreased significantly after the red card while PSG maintained their dominance over possession. The Parisians found a few more chances to increase their lead toward the end of the game but had no luck in converting them.
The narrow win keeps PSG at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 29 points from their 11 matches. They are three points above Lorient, who were held to a goalless draw against Reims on Saturday.
