Kingsley Coman scored a second-half goal to win the game for the Bavarians.
Bayern Munich defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in their Champions League game on Tuesday. A tightly-contested battle saw the Bavarians claim a crucial victory in the first leg of the last-16 round.
Two different halves for PSG!
Both sides were very cautious with their moves forward at the beginning of the game. But Bayern soon understood their opponents lacked enough speed on their counter-attacks.
The Bavarians’ confidence inside PSG’s half helped them create a number of chances to score the opener. But brilliant defending, led by Sergio Ramos, prevented the guests from finding the back of the net.
Bayern increased the pressure on PSG’s backline at the beginning of the second period. Kingsley Coman, once again, scored against his former side to make it 1-0 for the Bundesliga champions in the 53rd minute.
Following a fantastic cross from Alphonso Davies, Coman smashed a low volley past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian keeper made two more saves in the following ten minutes to keep PSG in the game. But when Mbappe came in for the hosts, the course of the game changed completely.
The French striker and Nuno Mendes both made a number of runs behind Bayern’s backline. The Bavarians’ defenders grew more and more frustrated, trying to cover more space inside the box.
PSG thought they had the equalizer when Mbappe converted a fast-paced counter-attack. But VAR ruled out the goal for Mendes’ offside in the buildup.
The hosts’ pressure was almost unbearable for Bayern when Benjamin Pavard’s reckless challenge on Lionel Messi convinced the referee to send him off with a second yellow card.
The Frenchman will miss the second leg at Munich on March 8.
