Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku look set to compete for another Golden Boot after making goalscoring returns in the Premier League.

For the second season in a row across two different leagues, Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku could compete again for a Golden Boot award.

It was, of course, Ronaldo who won the first round upon outscoring Lukaku by five goals to win Serie A’s Capocannoniere prize last season. The two attackers have since returned to the Premier League during the summer. They’ve each made impressive starts in Europe’s most competitive league and look ready to reignite their battle.

Ronaldo is already the joint-sixth highest scorer after bagging a brace in his second Manchester United debut. Lukaku, on the other hand, has scored three goals in as many games at Chelsea.

That said, it looks like the duo got some healthy competition. Michail Antonio and Bruno Fernandes lead the way with the best goal tallies in the Premier League top scorer battle, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Mason Greenwood are looking good as well.

What about the league standings?

While it’s still early days, Ronaldo may already have one eye on a fourth Premier League title. The Portuguese’s brace in the 4-1 win over Newcastle helped Manchester United climb to the top of the table.

Unless Liverpool or Everton get big wins in the two remaining games, United should stay top for this week ahead of Chelsea on a superior goal count. But Manchester City, Brighton and Tottenham do lurk just a single point behind.

On the other end of the table, Arsenal moved out of the relegation zone after grabbing their first win of the season by beating Norwich City 1-0.
