Premier League confirm three covid-19 cases ahead of new season

The Premier League has announced it has received three positive tests in its first round of testing ahead of the new season.

Ahead of the new season, three names have tested positive for coronavirus in the latest round of testing.

The 2020/21 Premier League season is scheduled to kick-off on the 12th of September.

Earlier today, a statement on the body’s official website released a statement on results from the latest round of testing.

“The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 31 August and Sunday 6 September, 1,605 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19.”

“Of these, there were three new positive tests.”

“Players or club staff who have tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.”

“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.”

“No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.”

Two of the three names are reportedly Manchester City duo Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez after the club announced earlier today.

Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus but they may miss City’s first game of the new season is away at Wolves on September 21.
