The Premier League awards for the best player, manager, and goal have been announced for the month of May.

Player of the Month – Joe Willock

Joe Willock capped off a superb loan spell at Newcastle by scoring the opening goal in the club’s final day 2-0 win over Fulham.

The 21-year-old has now scored in each of his last seven Premier League games; including all four of his appearances in May. Alan Shearer is the only Newcastle player in history to match this feat.

So to nobody’s surprise, Willock has bagged the Premier League’s Player of the Month. He’s the first player Magpies player to win the prize since goalkeeper Tim Krul in November 2013.

The young midfielder is now set to return to parent club Arsenal this summer.

Manager of the Month – Jurgen Klopp

A disastrous title defense, an almost never-ending list of injuries, no silverware, and some nightmare defeats made 2020/21 a forgettable season for Jurgen Klopp.

But the German can at least take some comfort from Liverpool’s end-of-season form. The Reds scored five wins on the bounce in May to clinch a third-place finish in the Premier League and Champions League qualification.

Klopp has now equaled his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola for nine Manager of the Month awards.

Goal of the Month – Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani welcomed 10,000 fans back to Old Trafford on May 18 by scoring a brilliant 40-yard lobbed goal against Fulham.

No United supporter had seen a goal at Old Trafford since Scott McTominay’s injury-time strike in a 2-0 derby win over Manchester City in March 2020. But Cavani made sure they had something to cheer about.

The Uruguayan picked up the ball from around 40 yards out, spotted Fulham keeper Alphonse Areola off his line, and then brilliantly lobbed the ball into the back of the net.
