The England international is spending the final 18 months of his current contract at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter has called on Chelsea to swiftly resolve the future of midfielder Mason Mount after talks for a new contract between his representatives and the club broke down.

The England international has 18 months left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge. According to reports from English media, Chelsea want to extend Mount’s deal by another seven years. However, the player’s representatives are reportedly pushing for wages of £ 240,000 a week, which is triple his current salary.

The club has already splurged around £600m since Todd Boehly’s takeover last summer and is treading on a Financial Fair Play (FFP) tightrope. Chelsea has used lengthy contracts for new recruits to keep their cost over a longer period, allowing them to pay less per year. The club wants to keep Mount for another seven years, but they are nowhere close to what he is demanding.

Potter urges Chelsea to quickly sort out the midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge, saying, “He’s been fantastic to work with and he is an important player for us. I hope it gets resolved quickly.” Reports suggest that Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation.

Mount has registered 33 goals and 37 assists in his 190 games for the Blues since his debut. He also helped the club win the 2020-21 Champions League. The forward has made it clear that his preference is to remain at Chelsea. But his representatives want wages that reflect his status as a first-team star.

Chelsea are currently struggling in the Premier League and, sitting 10th on the table, 10 points behind the top four. The club will host 20th-placed Southampton on Saturday.
