After his dominant Champions League performance, Joao Felix was praised by one of Portugal’s most important legends.

Portugal has only a handful of players who are considered legends and could praise Joao Felix this much. We are obviously talking about the other great Portuguese star who played as a Colchonero during the late ‘80s and early ‘90s: Paulo Futre. As a natural-born playmaker, the former Sporting CP product comes from a long line of historically talented players.

You could say he was the first of a winger school that also produced stars such as Luis Figo or Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite not coming from the same academy, Joao Felix is the player who follows that tradition. Playing at Atletico Madrid made Futre far more active on Twitter than usual, he is buzzing with his compatriot’s arrival as a Colchonero.

On his official account, it is clear that Futre loves having this young talent as part of the Spanish club he represented for six seasons. He posted a doctored image of both wearing an Atletico Madrid jersey while celebrating a goal.

Joao can become one of La Liga’s best players.

Without other great stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar, the Spanish La Liga is in dire need of new players who can step up for the challenge. Paulo Futre is an ambassador of the competition around the world and he supports Felix to take this test. After the match against Salzburg, he praised his compatriot by comparing him to one of the famous ‘Three Tenors’.

“A stellar Joao Felix. Marcos Llorente plays at a different pace and Correa was quite inspired. They took us to victory in a crazy match against a great Salzburg. Joao, Llorente, Correa: ‘My Way’ – The Three Tenors. The A Violin played ‘his way’ and we got the win. Let the readers decide: Which is Pavarotti, Jose Carreras, and Placido Domingo?”
