A crushing victory saw Portugal cruise past the Swiss in their last-16 clash.

Portugal defeated Switzerland 6-1 in their World Cup match on Tuesday. A fantastic display saw the Euro 2016 winners get one step closer to their World Cup dream.

A star is born!

The game started with Portugal establishing their control with precise passes in midfield.

Fernando Santos’ side then snatched a quick opener through Goncalo Ramos’ stunning strike in the 17th minute. Ramos found the back of the net in his first start for Portugal, but there was still way more to come.

Following an assist from Bruno Fernandes, Pepe doubled Portugal’s lead just after the half-hour mark.

Switzerland tried to bounce back at the beginning of the second period, but Portugal were quick in securing their victory.

Ramos scored his second goal of the night by converting Diogo Dalot’s low cross in the 51st minute. He then provided an assist for Raphael Guerreiro, who made it 4-0 only four minutes later.

Switzerland pulled one back through Manuel Akanji, but that didn’t stop Portugal from continuing their overwhelming attacks.

Ramos completed his hattrick by converting a precise through ball from Joao Felix in the 67th minute. Rafael Leao then added his name to the scoresheet by making it 6-1 in the extra time.

The victory sends Portugal to the quarter-finals, where they take on Morocco on Saturday.
