Portugal continued their Nations League campaign with a crushing victory over their Swiss opponents.

Portugal defeated Switzerland 4-0 in their UEFA Nations League match on Sunday. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Fernando Santos’ men went top of the Group A table.

A four-minute brace for CR7!

Portugal started putting pressure on Switzerland’s backline as soon as the game started. The hosts controlled the possession while their attackers sneaked deep behind their opponents’ defence line.

Following a few half-chances, William Carvalho opened the scoring for Portugal in the 15th minute. However, that didn’t stop the hosts from continuing their attacks throughout the first period.

An assist from Diogo Jota found Cristiano Ronaldo, who smashed the ball behind the back of the net from inside the box. The Manchester United star completed his brace by making it 3-0 only four minutes later.

Once again, a brilliant piece of buildup play found Jota, who decided to go for the goal himself this time. However, the keeper blocked his shot, only for Ronaldo to convert the rebound.

Switzerland looked much improved defensively in the second period. However, they couldn’t stop Portugal from scoring their fourth goal through Joao Cancelo in the 68th minute.

Both sides made a host of substitutions halfway through the second period, after which the pace of the game dropped significantly.

The victory sends Portugal top of the Group A table after the Czech Republic managed to hold Spain to a draw elsewhere in the group.
