Lewandowski opens World Cup account!

Saudi Arabia stunned Poland by dominating the game throughout the first period.

The Asian giants effectively controlled Robert Lewandowski while making several attempts to break the deadlock.

Poland, however, bounced back by scoring an unexpected opener in the 39th minute. Following an assist from Lewandowski, Piotr Zielinski made it 1-0 for the Poles with a powerful shot from inside the box.

Saudi Arabia started their efforts to get back into the game almost immediately. Only five minutes later, they found a golden chance to clinch the equalizer.

However, Wojciech Szczesny managed to save Salem Aldawsari’s penalty to keep Poland’s lead.

Saudi Arabia continued their efforts to get the equalizer in the second period. But Poland managed to decrease the pace of the game to their benefit.

The Poles eventually secured their win through Lewandowski’s first-ever goal in the World Cup. Following a terrible blunder from Abdulelah Almalki, the Barcelona star stole the ball right in front of the goal and made it 2-0 for Poland.

Poland will be able to qualify for the World Cup’s last-16 round by avoiding defeat against Argentina in their final game. Later today, the Albiceleste will take on Mexico in a crucial game that will impact Saudi Arabia’s chances.
