Ever wondered how Paul Pogba serves Manchester United best? Well, Frank Leboeuf believes the answer is simple – on the bench.

Pogba, who made his first Premier League start since United’s 6-1 home loss to Tottenham, conceded the all-decisive penalty that led to Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old may have pulled off a decent performance in the club’s 5-0 Champions League win over RB Leipzig last week, but gave a forgettable one against Arsenal.

He had no answer for the Gunners’ intensity and often made some rather erratic passes before fouling Hector Bellerin in the box. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then scored from the 12-yard spot to seal United’s fate.

Pogba later accepted responsibility for actions, but his critics weren’t quite so forgiving.

Leboeuf, for instance, believes his fellow Frenchman simply doesn’t have a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up.

The ex-Chelsea defender told ESPN: “I don’t know if there is an explanation [for United’s form]. It was a random win against Leipzig and a lucky one.

“What we have seen in the Premier League is not good enough from Manchester United. The level drops dramatically.

“It was very strange to see that diamond midfield because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted Pogba in the middle of the park where he is clearly a problem because he changed him in the second half, putting him on the left wing almost.

“He doesn’t know what to do with Pogba. Solskjaer has to rethink his position, maybe the best position for Pogba right now is the bench.”
