Pogba explains why he performs better for France than Manchester United

The World Cup winner has opened up on the differences between his performances at club and international level.

Paul Pogba reckons a lack of clarity over his role is the reason he cannot replicate his France performances at Manchester United.

The 29-year-old re-joined the club for a world record fee of around €105 million from Juventus in 2016. He hasn’t, though, been able to live up to expectations. Occasionally there have been flashes of promise. Inconsistency and a lack of silverware, however, have overshadowed Pogba’s five-and-a-half-years back at the Theatre of Dreams.

But on the international scene, it’s a different story.

Pogba has continued to excel for the French national team. He’s bossed the midfield alongside the likes of N’Golo Kante, helping Les Bleus win the 2018 World Cup and 2020/21 Nations League.

Why can’t Pogba do as well for Manchester United?

Speaking to Le Figaro about the differences between his performances at club and international level, Pogba opened up over his roles in both teams.

“Here [with France], I have a lot more playing time, the system is different than with my club,” he said.

“In fact, it is simple, with Les Bleus, I play, and, on top of that, in my position. I know my role, I feel the confidence of the coach, the players.

“It is normal, to feel this difference with Manchester because it is difficult to be consistent when you change position often; also the playing style or who you are playing with.”

Pogba, whose home was burgled last week during United’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, may return to action for France on Friday in a friendly against Ivory Coast.
