Before facing Lille in Ligue 1, Mauricio Pochettino revealed the reason PSG are not feeling inferior to Bayern Munich anymore.

Perhaps in previous seasons, PSG might’ve felt an inferiority complex against Bayern Munich but nobody blamed them. The German squad has been one of the most consistent football clubs of the last two years. Any other squad in the world can feel inferior to such a well-oiled machine like that. Just last season, the Bavarian giants won the Champions League by getting a victory in every single match they played.

They even defeated PSG in the final with no real opposition despite the French club’s impressive roster. However, this season feels different for PSG under Mauricio Pochettino. We are talking about a manager who got to a Champions League final with a much more limited squad. Now that he has everything he wants in terms of talent, he can do a lot more in order to get important victories.

Pochettino explains why PSG can win.

Just before facing Lille in Ligue 1, Mauricio Pochettino offered an explanation to why PSG has a good chance at beating Bayern this time around. Marca picked up his statements: “With Tottenham, in the quarter-final against Manchester City in 2019, Harry Kane got injured in the first half of the first leg,” he said in a press conference. We played almost an hour [without him] and the [entire] second leg without him, our most important striker, like Lewandowski is for Bayern, and we qualified.

“Bayern are not just Lewandowski, who is a massive player but the real strength of Bayern is the collective. Bayern are not an easy team, they are the reigning European champions. But there is no need to have an inferiority complex,” he added. “We will go to Munich with respect, but with the objective of qualifying for the semi-finals.”
