Dynamo Kyiv manager Mircea Lucescu believes Andrea Pirlo can go on to be a successful manager like Zidane and Guardiola.
It’s become common place to see former players go on to be managers in the current era. Andrea Pirlo is the latest star from his era to join the managerial hot-seat.
Before him, earlier ex-players like Pep Guardiola, Zinedine Zidane and Diego Simeone have all seen success as managers.
All the aforementioned names have all won titles with their clubs and a respected figure in football has backed Pirlo to follow suit as well.
Romanian legend Mircea Lucescu, now coach of Dynamo Kviv, has backed the Juve manager who is well familiar with to succeed.
The Dynamo Kyiv manager gave Pirlo his first appearance as a senior footballer back in the ‘90s. In poetic fashion, Lucescu will be his first opponent as a coach in Champions League on the 20th of October.
“I knew Pirlo would become a coach and the same is true of [Diego] Simeone who I coached at Pisa,” Lucuscu told Tuttosport.
“I am not surprised Pirlo begins his coaching career at Juventus. It’s not a risky choice for him, the club chose him and will support him. I am very happy for him.”
Since the day of his appointment as Juventus’ head coach, Pirlo has been compared to the likes of Pep Guardiola and Zizou Zidane.
“He can be like them,” Lucescu insisted.
“Andrea was a champion a footballer and can become a big manager.”
