There was a time when Gerard Pique didn’t get along with Pep Guardiola at all, he finally opened up about the time he nearly left.

Believe it or not, there was a time in which Gerard Pique nearly left FC Barcelona thanks to Pep Guardiola’s pressure. We honestly think the Catalan manager has learned from the mistakes he made with the Catalan defender. Although he still seems determined to have everything under control at Manchester City, players no longer have personal issues as Guardiola had with Pique. Gerard even considered leaving the Catalan club during the 2011-12 season because Guardiola rejected his relationship with Shakira.

That’s the mother of his children right there, getting in the way of one’s relationship with family is uncalled for. But Pep apparently thought Pique was getting a little too distracted from the real objectives at the club. There was a time in which he started trying to forbid certain stuff from the player. That’s exactly when the major disagreement came and Guardiola decided to leave the club. He wasn’t about to compromise one of the club’s most believed players for a personal issue.

The reason Pique nearly left FC Barcelona.

Gerard Pique keeps making the rounds in local shows that ask for interviews, he wants to feel closer to the people with these decisions. In a show called La Sotana, he opened up about his struggles with Pep Guardiola. However, he also revealed that both of them get along perfectly now. Back then, it is also true that Gerard Pique wasn’t as mature as he is today: “We reached a moment of tension with him, not just me but the dressing room in general.

“The rivalry with Jose Mourinho [at Real Madrid] wore us down a lot. Pep wanted absolute control over everything that was happening. “I started dating Shakira and our relationship changed. Now, the relationship is perfect. But there was a lot of pressure on me then. I felt like I had to do everything in training perfectly. “If there was a moment I thought about leaving Barca, it was that [2011-12] season. I struggled in that last season with Guardiola.”
