Pique and Shakira confirm separation amid cheating allegations

The Barcelona defender will end his relationship with Shakira after 11 years.

Colombian singer Shakira has confirmed his relationship with Gerard Pique has come to an end.

In recent days, rumours around Pique’s alleged cheating have surfaced online. Spanish outlet El Periodico has claimed the Barcelona defender “has been seen accompanied by other women” and that he has “been living alone for weeks in his old apartment”.

A joint statement from Pique and Shakira reads: “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways.

“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.

“Thanks for your understanding.”

Pique and Shakira started dating back in 2010. The pair have two sons together, Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven.

Bizarre claims over Pique’s relationship with the mother of his Barcelona teammate, Gavi, have also spread since last week. However, El Periodico, who first published the story about Pique and Shakira’s separation, has firmly debunked those claims.

“The woman who could have put Piqué and Shakira on the brink of breaking up is a young blonde in her 20s,” a new report from the Spanish source claims.

“She is studying and works as an event hostess.”

In an interview with Garry Neville’s Overlap program in May, Pique discussed why he and Shakira were not married.

“It’s her mentality,” the Barca star said.

“I like it how we are right now. We have two kids, nine and seven right now. We work good as a couple.”
