AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli says his side need reinforcements as they prepare ahead for their Europa League play-off with Shamrock Rovers.
Stefano Pioli says Milan need more defensive additions as they prepare to enter another hectic season.
The Rossoneri continued pre-season preparations in fine form after a 4-1 friendly victory against Serie B side Monza on Saturday.
There’s barely time to rest before Milan get back into action again.
An Europa League play-off clash against Irish side Shamrock Rovers awaits on the 17th of September. Pioli is already looking forward to that.
The Italian manager is pleased with his side’s pre-season form so far but bemoans a lack of defensive names to go match with the schedule.
“We’re a bit short-staffed in defence, having Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Musacchio and Andrea Conti out injured.” Pioli said to Milan TV.
“I am in constant contact with the club and the directors. There’s a long way to go in the transfer window and we’ll see what situations emerge.”
Speaking on the game against Shamrock Rovers, Pioli says their opponents have the uppper-hand but they must be prepared regardless.
“There weren’t any injuries, we kept a decent tempo and will have to be very concentrated when the time comes, because I’ll have the full squad at my disposal only a few days before the game.”
“We’ll be up against a side that is physically in better shape, having begun their season already, so we must be absolutely prepared mentally.”
Four days after their Europa League play-off, Milan will begin their Serie A campaign with a home fixture against Bologna. Milan ended last season in good form and Pioli would be hoping they carry on from there.
