FIFA awarded Portugal’s first goal against Uruguay on Monday to Bruno Fernandes after deciding CR7 hadn’t touched the ball.

Piers Morgan claims that Cristiano Ronaldo has ‘confirmed’ to him that he touched the ball in the build-up to Portugal’s first goal against Uruguay.

The 2016 European champions booked a last-16 spot on Monday by beating Uruguay 2-0. Bruno Fernandes scored both goals, including the first one according to FIFA after reviewing the scene.

However, Ronaldo appears to not be on the same page as FIFA on this one, based on his alleged exchange with Morgan, whom he recently had a long interview with, which led to his departure from Manchester United earlier this month.

“Ronaldo confirmed to me that his head touched the ball. Even Bruno agrees,” the British broadcaster posted on Twitter.

The goal in question came in the 54th minute of Monday’s Group H match in Lusail. Fernandes sent a cross into the box, which Ronaldo seemingly glanced with his head, before it went into the back of the Uruguay net.

Social media clips also showed Ronaldo gesturing to his head after the match had ended.

Fernandes, who later scored an injury-time penalty to complete his brace and send Portugal into the knockout round, admitted that he initially thought his teammate got a touch of the ball as well at the final whistle.

“The feeling I had at the time was that Cristiano touched the ball. I was passing the ball to him,” the Manchester United midfielder said.

Next up for Fernando Santos’ side is South Korea on Friday for one last Group H match.
