Following his return from loan at Bayern Munich, Barcelona have announced that Philippe Coutinho will reclaim his initial no.14 jersey.

Phillipe Coutinho is back at Barcelona and has reclaimed his initial no.14 jersey from when he first joined the club.

After his arrival back in January 2018, the Brazilian took the no.14 jersey that was available following the departure of Javier Mascherano.

Coutinho wore the jersey for a few months before he swapped for the no.7.

Following his departure to Bayern Munich on loan, Antoine Griezmann was handed the no.7 jersey in the Brazilian’s absence.

With Coutinho now back at the club, he will revert back to this first jersey number just after he joined the club.

Barcelona announced the decision via a statement on Friday.

“The Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho has his shirt number for the 2020/21 season.

“After returning from a loan spell with Bayern Munich, the carioca international will show off the number 14 shirt this season under new coach Ronald Koeman, the same number he wore during the first few months on his Barça career after his arrival at the Club in January 2018.

“The number has a long history at the Club and is associated with the historic figure of Johan Cruyff as well as the likes of Thierry Henry and Javier Mascherano.”

Coutinho has already worn the no.14 jersey for Barca in pre-season and even won a man-of-the-match award in their 1-0 win over Elche in the Gamper Trophy game.

The Brazilian has a new found desire to perform under Ronald Koeman and perhaps a jersey change could bring him some luck as well.
