Arteta has worked with the Man City star during his time as an assistant manager at Etihad.

Manchester City forward Phil Foden has heaped praise on Mikel Arteta, who has found a brilliant start to the new season with Arsenal.

Prior to his move to Emirates, Arteta worked as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Man City for three and half years.

Foden, who has worked closely with the Spaniard, is not surprised by his recent success at Arsenal.

“Unbelievable,” Foden told Amazon Prime Video when asked about Arteta.

“I remember working with him closely after training on some things I needed to improve.

“I know how good he can be as a coach. He’s definitely a great coach.”

Arsenal appointed Arteta in 2019 to start an extensive project of rebuilding their squad.

The Gunners finished eighth in the Premier League during their first two seasons under the Spanish coach.

Arteta’s side also found a terrible start to their 2021-22 campaign. But, they managed to get back on track in the second half of the season, finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Jack Wilshere, who has recently returned to Arsenal to coach their U18 team, explained Arteta’s ‘modern’ style.

“Playing with [Arteta], he was a guy who was very focused, very intelligent with the way he trained,” he told Daily Mail.

“As a coach he is very similar. He is very intense, very hands on with the players and trying different things, new techniques to try to help them. I like it. He’s a modern coach.”
