The club showed support for their player after an altercation video involving him went viral.
A video of Phil Foden and his mother being involved in a fight took the internet by storm on Sunday. The pair received verbal abuse from a group of males at Manchester’s AO Arena’s backstage before the Amir Khan – Kell Brook fight.
Foden tried to avoid the group’s attention by going into a side room. However, the angry exchanges continued before one of the men attacked Foden’s mother and punched her in the face.
Earlier today, Telegraph reported Manchester Police are not investigating the incident. However, the Citizens have now published an official statement to support their young star.
“The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused,” City’s statement reads.
“We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil’s family members. We will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need.”
The incident came after City’s 3-2 defeat against Tottenham on Saturday. Foden played the full 90 minutes while the Citizens saw their top-of-the-table lead shrink down to six points.
