A video of Kurt Zouma went viral after he was seen kicking and slapping his pet cat.
The Professional Footballers’ Association have released a statement condemning Kurt Zouma after a video emerged of the West Ham star abusing his pet cat.
Footage of Zouma drop-kicking his cat before throwing designer shoes at it and then slapping the pet has gone viral on social media.
The video was filmed by the former Chelsea star’s brother on Snapchat, who laughed as Zouma carried out the vile abuse.
The statement released by the PFA read: “It is not for us to discipline him, it is for the employer to discipline, but our role is to tell the player this type of behaviour is not acceptable.”
Meanwhile, West Ham have released their own statement, slamming Zouma for his actions.
“West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated,” the club said.
“We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.”
The 27-year-old went on to apologise for his actions and said: “I want to apologise for my actions. There are no excuses for my behaviour, which I sincerely regret.
“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video. I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.
“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”
