In many ways, this is arguably the best decision both sides could’ve made but it won’t come without consequence.
As of right now, there are many objectives Pep Guardiola has for the next two years. We decided to make a shortlist of the Top 5 priorities he needs to accomplish before leaving Manchester City in 2023.
5.- Perpetuate Premier League dominance.
With competition stiffer than ever in the Premier League, one of Pep Guardiola’s biggest objectives is to perpetuate dominance in the local tournament. Having other major clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea in the league is a major motivation.
For Pep Guardiola, winning more Premier League titles in this era will be of massive importance in terms of the legacy he will leave after going on his next adventure.
4.- Renew the squad’s midfield with new talents.
Even though he already has some very interesting players in key positions, there are at least two more transfers Guardiola needs to make in order to renew Manchester City’s midfield.
A key part of his possession-based style relies on having top midfielders. Despite already having future stars such as Phil Foden and Rodri, Pep knows he also needs replacements for Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne.

As one of the most important tasks for the next couple of years, Pep Guardiola needs to find a solution to the problem that Sergio Aguero’s retirement poses.
The Argentine star will leave as the club’s greatest legend and finding his substitute will be incredibly difficult. Regardless of the challenge, Pep is eager to take on this task over the next couple of years.
2.- Win the elusive Champions League.
Even though he hasn’t been able to win the Champions League recently, Manchester City still decided to renew Guardiola’s contract. He will have another two years to make this happen, which means the club still trusts him with this task.
If it wasn’t due to the top priority on this list, winning the European Cup would be right at the top. But there’s something more important than winning this tournament.
1.- Bring Lionel Messi in 2021.
Even though he keeps denying his desire to have Lionel Messi at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola will still attempt to sign the Argentine in 2021. The Barcelona captain seems like he needs a full reset at a different club where problems don’t follow him constantly.
In everyone’s view, getting back together with Pep Guardiola is the perfect way to end his career. Both Pep and Manchester City will attempt the impossible and maybe we will see Leo donning the Sky Blue kit next season.
