During a recent interview in Spanish, Pep Guardiola made a comparison that might be controversial to all Argentines.
Although Sergio Aguero can be considered a legendary player from the Premier League era, Pep Guardiola might’ve taken his praise a little too far. There are many players from Argentina who are worth remembering throughout the years, but two of them stand out from the rest. Leo Messi is still writing his story in Spain, whereas Maradona wrote his own in Italy. And despite Sergio Aguero became a legend in the Premier League, saying he conquered England might be the politically correct response.
Guardiola was obviously going to say something nice about his current player and the legacy he leaves at Manchester City. We have no doubt that he is inside the Top 5 best foreign players in the Premier League era. But putting him above other legendary stars such as Drogba, Ronaldo, or Henry is simply too much to handle. Moreover, comparing him to Maradona and Messi is a little over the top just by judging on the response from the fans.
Guardiola’s wild claims about Sergio Aguero.
During a recent interview with ESPN Brazil, Pep said the following statement: “I would say that Aguero’s numbers speak for themselves. Maradona was from Argentina and he conquered Italy. Messi is also from Argentina and he conquered Spain. Aguero conquered England. His numbers speak for themselves. When you still have that competitive spirit as Aguero does, you tend to win games by yourself pretty often.
“He’s played 380 matches and scored 250 goals in this tough league, in the span of a decade. Aguero, alongside Joe Hart, Kompany, David Silva, and other players. They took this club from a place and put it on another level. And we arrived later to find this: a much better club. Now, we have to try. In order to keep that legacy so we can keep taking the club to greater heights.”
