Pep Guardiola revealed Tottenham turned down four bids from Manchester City for Harry Kane last summer.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that Tottenham turned down four bids for Harry Kane last summer.

Kane was widely rumoured to join City last summer and reportedly informed Spurs of his wish to leave the club.

However, club chairman Daniel Levy was adamant to hold on to the England international and refused to accept anything less than £150million for the striker.

And Guardiola has now revealed that Spurs turned down four bids for the 28-year-old.

“Now you can say, “Harry Kane didn’t come and everything is going well” but at the time I didn’t know it,” said Guardiola.

“We tried but Tottenham were clear that it was not going to happen. When that happens two, three, four times, it’s over.

“After that we saw the squad and we were not sure. We then lost at Spurs and against Leicester in the Community Shield.

“I never was disappointed in what the club cannot do in the transfer market. I’ve never created a fire here. When we have some talks and we cannot agree, we do it internally.”

City are still looking to sign a striker following Sergio Aguero’s departure last summer and are reportedly trying to convince Erling Haaland to join the club instead of signing for Real Madrid or Barcelona.
