The Manchester City boss has spoken for the first time since Cristiano Ronaldo completed a return to Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola remained tight-lipped on the dramatic events of the past week surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo.

After a failed move for Tottenham star Harry Kane, Manchester City eyed a move for Ronaldo. The club held talks with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, but ultimately pulled out. Their withdrawal on Friday came as Manchester United sealed a deal with Juventus, worth an initial €15 million plus up to €8 million in bonuses.

Ronaldo, who is currently in Lisbon ahead of the international break, agreed on a two-year contract with the Red Devils after holding talks with Guardiola.

“I don’t think frustrated is the right word,” the City boss told BT Sport when asked whether his struggles to sign a star striker these last few days have been frustrating.

“We have an exceptional squad and we have improved to have the best possible team to compete.

“It’s good that a player like Cristiano Ronaldo is back in England for the Premier League and it is good news.”

Guardiola spoke to the media ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League match against Arsenal.

The Citizens currently hold a 4-0 lead over the 10-man Gunners, who had Granit Xhaka sent off in the first half.
