The Spanish boss has praised Ten Hag for his ‘top-class’ qualities as a head coach.
Pep Guardiola has sent a message to Erik ten Hag following his appointment as the next Manchester United manager.
United announced they have signed a contract with Ten Hag on Thursday. The Dutch coach ends his successful spell at Ajax to take over from Ralf Rangnick next summer.
Prior to joining Ajax, Ten Hag worked for two years as a second-team manager at Bayern Munich. During that period, he worked closely with the then Bayern manager Pep Guardiola.
The Spaniard has reacted to the news of Ten Hag’s arrival, expressing his excitement over his appointment at Man United.
“Watch his Ajax team and you see his qualities,” Guardiola said.
“Congratulations to Erik and wish him all the best. He is a top class manager, his teams are a joy to watch at a team like Ajax.“
Most observers believe Guardiola has influenced Ten Hag’s playing style. The Dutch coach often uses a 4-2-3-1 format, with his teams’ constantly craving for possession domination.
For now, Guardiola has way too many things to think about rather than a new Premier League opponent. Manchester City are competing in a close title race with Liverpool while also preparing to face Real Madrid in a two-legged Champions League semi-final tie.
