Pep Guardiola has hailed Erik ten Hag for leading Manchester United to the Carabao Cup.
The Dutchman has transformed Man Utd into a much-improved side since arriving at Old Trafford last summer. The 2-0 win at Wembley saw Ten Hag’s men claim their first trophy of the season as they continue fighting for three more titles.
Guardiola aimed a slight dig at United’s spending when asked whether they could become challengers to win the Premier League.
“If they spend a little more money, yes, because they didn’t spend, isn’t it? They’re in the position they normally should be.”
The Spanish manager went on to praise his former Bayern Munich colleague Ten Hag for his impressive start at United.
He added: “It’s normal that United has to be there. When I landed here, I thought United would always be there, for the history, for everything, and Erik is doing an incredible job.
“And the players – you see how committed they are, how all together they try to do it.”
Man Utd are competing in FA Cup and Europa League while sitting third in the Premier League. Ten Hag’s men are six points behind the second-placed City but have a game at hand.
