One of Pep Guardiola’s idols sent him a message of congratulations after leading Man City to Champions League success.

Pep Guardiola may be on cloud nine after winning the Champions League, but the icing on the cake was surely a congratulatory message from one of his idols, Hollywood actress Julia Roberts.

It seems like the message was all Guardiola needed. Manchester City shared their joy on social media with the caption “@PepTeam will be buzzing at this!”.

Roberts took to Instagram to applaud the City manager for masterminding Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Inter Milan, saying “Congratulations @pepteam for leading your team to be UCL champions. #pep #soccermom”.

This acknowledgment is something Guardiola has desperately sought. In March, the Catalan revealed his sorrow after learning Roberts chose to visit Manchester United instead of watching his City team during a trip to England.

The coach, who once said, “If I win the Champions League three times in a row, I will be a failure”, considers Roberts as one of his three idols, alongside basketball legend Michael Jordan and Golf icon Tiger Woods.

Elaborating on his disappointment, Guardiola added: “Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex [Ferguson] was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right? And she went to visit Man United. She didn’t come to see us. That’s why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn’t come to see us. Even if I win the Champions League, it will not compare to this disappointment I had.”
