The Citizens are facing serious allegations of financial misconduct.

Pep Guardiola has blamed Manchester City’s Premier League rivals for being the driving force behind their financial allegations.

Earlier this week, City were charged with over 100 breaches of Premier League’s financial regulations. The club could receive serious punishment, including points deduction if the court finds them guilty.

In his first press conference since the announcement of the charges, Guardiola was asked whether he thinks other Premier League rivals have added fuel to the fire behind the scenes.

“Yeah of course,” he responded. “It’s the Premier League…You should go to the chairman, the CEOs, Daniel Levy, and ask them.”

In 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned a ruling that banned Man City from playing in European competitions for two seasons. Guardiola believes the current case has put City in a similar situation.

“My first thought is we have already been condemned,” he said. “What’s happened this week after Monday is what happened with UEFA.”

The Spanish boss added: “Time will dictate what is going to happen, but just in case we are not innocent, we will accept what the judge, the Premier League decide.

“But what happens if the same situation with UEFA happens and we are innocent? What happens to restore or pay back our damage?”
