Going into this weekend’s trip to St. Mary’s, the Man City boss lavished praise on a former player of his.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hinted the club could re-sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton one day.

The 19-year-old has impressed at the heart of the Saints midfield this season following a £10.5million transfer from Man City last summer.

Depending on add-ons, the transfer fee could rise up to £14 million. Man City also have a £40 million buy-back clause for Lavia, which becomes active in 2024.

“I’m really impressed with what Romeo [Lavia] has done [at Southampton] and is doing. We have an incredible opinion of him,” Guardiola said in a press conference on Friday ahead of the weekend trip to Southampton.

“We thought to keep him, but thought we couldn’t give him enough minutes as he has at Southampton.”

Lavia has featured in 20 of Southampton’s 29 Premier League games this season, 17 as a starter. He has scored one goal for the club.

His performances at St.Mary’s recently earned him his first cap with the Belgium national team.

The former Anderlecht and Man City youngster is set to face Guardiola’s side for the second time since his departure on Saturday. For match details and betting tips, visit Ace Football’s Southampton-Man City preview here.
